9 Olives

9 Olives

9 Olives plays music from the cities and villages of the Macedonian region. This earthy, sweeping music is based on distinctive, uneven dance rhythms and sweetly urgent melodies. Praised for "beguiling vocal sweetness" by CBC Radio, this group of Canadian and American musicians is fast becoming a regular on the Balkan music scene, and -- more importantly -- introducing a new generation to the allure of Macedonian narodno and izvorno music. The group features Jodi Hewat (vocals), Sonya Rolfe (vocals + tambura), Adam Good (tambura), Matt Moran (tupan) and Jeff Fine (kaval).
