Linux Stuff

It’s been almost two years since my big switch from using Apple OS-based computers to open source operating systems based on Linux. I had used Apple computers since the late 80s and was easily a fan. Fun, practical and easy to use, my machines were workhorses that I drove into the ground. I only upgraded to new machines if I needed some more power for bigger projects but I did manage to do lots of recording, produced my first CD all by myself on a Powerbook and coded lots of websites, made a few CD covers, etc.

However a switch to Linux was a long time in the making: by nature I love to tinker with things (bikes as a kid, electronic instruments as a teen. Never really did…anything…just sort of took things apart and put them back together) so, checking out Linux was bound to happen. After some invaluable help from my friend Andreas I had a Debian distribution up and running on an old Apple iBook. Two years later I’ve kicked out the Apple machines and now use various machines around the house for different tasks, one of which is watching TV :)

Hopefully I’ll be writing more details but for now I’d just like to mention that my favorite distribution at the moment is from Mint, a distro built off of Ubuntu (which in turn was built off of Debian which in turn was built off of blah blah blah)…

It’s seriously well done and just awesome, everything works out of the box for me.
